Bletchley Park

Enigma Machine

Schmeisser

Enigma machine

Wednesday was a boys' day out ! Mr X, Mr XX, Bunny and I set off at 10.15 for Bletchley Park.

Bletchley Park is the home of the code-breaking operation during the second World War. The colosseus has been rebuilt and is enormous in comparison with modern computers. The Enigma Machine is also on display and we saw both of these important machines during our visit.

The introduction to our visit was a short talk from one of the volunteers and then a guided tour of the museum.

Christ Church College Cathedral
Oxford

In the morning, Mr X and I went to the Wellington museum. We saw medals, pictures and models of planes all about World War two. We saw flags and also a frame of the tail of a Wellington bomber. Then we left the van park and drove to Oxford. We parked the motor van and took the bus to go to the town (park and ride). When we arrived in town, we walked to the Christ Church College. Christ Church College is very old. It was built for Cardinal Wolsey, a very important bishop who wanted to increase his power during the reign of King Henry VIII. But he died before the college was finished.
The life of the students at the time comprised of work and prayers. The Cathedral is an impressive building. Inside we saw the 800 year old the shrine of St Frideswide. We visited Christ Church College and its Cathedral.
We had a quick look around the shops but we didn’t’ buy anything. I should have liked to have bought a sweatshirt but I couldn’t make up my mind about it! Oxford is quite a big town which is very busy and full of tourists and students from all around the world. Oxford is not the only town with famous colleges. Cambridge, which is a rival of Oxford also has prestigious Colleges. Both want to win the Varsity Cups.
We had to leave early to avoid the busy Friday Afternoon traffic.
When we arrived home we had the famous English fish and chips for tea and it was fabulous.

How to drive and live in a van

Sir JBD of MK

For the first time in my short life, I entered a motor-van. It’s a medium sized van for 3 people: 3 seats with the driver’s one, 2 beds (one double and one single above the cab). We drove to Warwick Castle where we parked. As I had forgotten to take some films with me, I had to buy another disposable camera. I found the castle exceedingly interesting and very well-preserved, as well as crowded with tourists from the whole world and much bigger than I thought. We climbed up a spiral staircase in the highest tower and I overcame my fear of heights. Cornish pasties were our late picnic lunch with some orange juice. We drove to Stratford where we walked in the streets. We saw teddy bears and then we went to Shakespeare’s place of birth. Then we drove to Moreton- in- Marsh where we stayed the night in the motor van.

A wet and busy day

Studying a text from the Lord of the Flies is not easy, especially when you are hungry. After writing a paragraph about this book, we drove to have breakfast at IKEA. I had a bacon Panini and tomatoes with hot chocolate. We did the shopping at TESCO and we refuelled the car. While Mrs X was shopping, Mr X and I went to the bookshop upstairs. I bought a book there. We ate a special English meal for lunch: Cornish pasties! The afternoon was filled with an exciting visit to MK’s museum. We had tea with friends there. In the evening, I took my revenge at poker (I lost everything the day before): I won everything. This day and for the second time, I went to bed very late.

A new car for the family

Today, we had trouble parking our new car. I found it quite comfortable but difficult to drive.

A fine ride

Today, it was not raining for the first time since my arrival in MK. So we decided to go and our bikes. We saw the ruins of a Roman house, we crossed bridges and had lots of fun> While I was riding in front of the group to see if they would be any cherries, I fell down trying to climb a wet playground. I also climbed concrete cows in 18 seconds. I took pictures of ducks and I fed a very hungry horse that was trying to eat the grass on the other side of the fences.
